This framing of anxiety as functional theology is brillaint. The insight that hypervigilance is basically us trying to fill in for omniscience really clicked for me. I've noticed in my own life that the most anxious moments aren't when actual danger is present but when I feel like I need to forsee every outcome. That line about giving God back the job fear tried to take is powerful.
Thanks for saying this. I appreciated hearing how it landed for you, especially the part about anxiety showing up when you feel responsible for every possible outcome.
