The Possibility of Hope

When all seems hopeless, thank God for the possibility

When the terrible earthquake of 2010 hit Haiti, a woman found herself trapped under the rubble of her home for four days with no food or water, no comfort, no certainty of rescue. She couldn’t move. Her arms and legs were trapped, but hour by hour she prayed, she worshiped, and she trusted. Eventually, she began to sense a change. At first, she could move her right arm, and then she could move her left leg. As the days went on, she found that she could move her left arm and then her right leg. It was only a small movement, but at least she could get some circulation to her body.

Four days later, when her rescuers saved her, she recounted the words she had said to God as she waited for release. She had prayed, “Thank you for the possibilities, Lord. Thank you for the possibility of movement and for the possibility of rescue.”

Can you thank God for the possibilities? That might be all there is in your present life—possibilities—but if that’s all there is, then hope is a possibility. When hopelessness threatens to steal your joy, thank God for the possibilities in your life. And, rest in the knowledge that God is a God of hope and he offers himself to you. Just think of all the possibilities!
