Hi, my name is Hayley, and I’m a recovering conversational bully.
I was never trying to be obnoxious—I’m just a natural. I’m so skilled I can do something without even trying.
No, but I genuinely thought I was helping—Helping people think better, speak better, even dress better (you’re welcome 2017).
But somewhere along the way, my “helpfulness” turned into a lot of noise for a few select people in my life. And well-meaning critiques, whether right or wrong, broke something in me.
And one day, I lost my voice. I didn’t go mute—I just shut down inside.
Not because I had nothing to say, but because I started to believe my voice didn’t matter anymore.
I had once been a bestselling author, a speaker, a woman with a message that they told me connected deeply. But the whispers started—from others, and from within:
"You’re not like you used to be."
"You’ve lost it."
"You should probably stay quiet."
And so I did.
It wasn't just the words, though. It was the disinterest. The silence. The correction that came a little too often and a little too sharp. And over time, I started to question if I was even gifted at writing.
But writing is like breathing to me. I have always been and will always be a writer, but saying anything of spiritual value felt like a dangerous endeavor for me, so I launched my blog, The Next New Thing to Me, where I would just write about new things I was learning and doing that were anything but spiritual. After all, who could complain about that? Well, you’d be surprised. Even stories about my life didn’t please everyone.
So, at some point last year, I stopped writing completely, so confused was I about my voice and my place in the spiritual conversation. I felt like I had nothing to offer. Nothing to inspire. Nothing worth saying. So I went quiet. Again.
But then something happened in the silence.
I changed.
I became more introspective. More thoughtful. More introverted even.
Less of a conversational bulldozer and more of a quiet presence.
I stopped assuming it was my job to make people better and started turning inward—asking how I could become better. More kind. More loving. More faithful.
I became less certain I knew everything—and far more free to say so.
And so, after much soul work—researching, studying, praying, and writing what no one saw— I have come to a place of freedom where I am ready to step out again.
Not to be loud, but to be faithful.
Not to be performative, but to be present.
Not to be a star, but to be a light.
Where is this going?
It’s going here!
Welcome to GodGirl.com, my new blog/newsletter. This isn’t just a rebrand. It’s a return.
God Girl started as a book series, and to my surprise, it resonated. Now, it’s a blog too. And with it, I’m going back to my roots—talking about the things of God in unexpected ways. With honesty, hope, and hopefully a little insight.
And with this return comes something new for you:
The Book-a-Month Club
Are you happy getting my newsletters delivered directly to your inbox?
How about getting my books delivered there as well, for just $8 a month?
That’s right. Coming soon - The Book-a-Month Club!
I’m going to be publishing a book a month on my blog. And that means that when you turn on your paid subscription to GodGirl.com for just $8/month, you’ll get access to at least one new book every month.
Yes, a full book. Every single month. Because I've been writing in the shadows for a while, and now it's time to share. For the price of a boba tea, you can get a Hayley book!
So, here's what's coming in the first four months:
Weightless: Living Light in a Heavy World Weightless is a 31-day devotional for anyone tired of carrying the crushing weight of anxiety. It’s about letting go of what you were never meant to hold and learning to live light, free, and grounded in God’s peace. This one is a must-read for my anxious or worried friends! My favorite.
Deathless: Prepping for Eternal Life Deathless is a 31-day devotional guiding you through what I call a spiritual death cleanse—helping you release what holds you here and fix your eyes on the life that never ends. The spiritual death cleanse is one of the most freeing things you will experience!
Speechless: Making Silence Your Strength and Trusting Your Voice Speechless invites you to let go of the need to defend yourself, to always be right, or to prove others wrong—and instead, to trust God with who you're becoming. It’s about discovering strength in quiet and confidence in surrender. Get ready for the peace!
Powerless: Learning to Be Fearless in an Out-of-Control World Powerless is a 31-day journey into the heart of fear—how it twists your thinking, steals your peace, and keeps you grasping for control. But there’s a better way: fearless faith in a faithful God.
Fruitful: Cultivating a Love Only God Can Produce Fruitful is a fresh take on The Fruitful Wife—now rewritten for anyone hungry for spiritual growth. This book will help you cultivate the kind of love that doesn’t come from trying harder but from living connected to the Vine.
These are only the planned titles at the time, but there will be at least two more titles coming in the next 6 months, along with audiobooks!
So, if you’d like to give my book-a-month club a try, turn on paid subscriptions now!
Weightless will be delivered to your inbox—one devotional a day—starting Monday, April 21st. Everyone will get to read the first five days without a paid subscription, but after that only paid subscribers will get the entire book.
Thank you for being here—truly. By subscribing to this newsletter, you’re doing more than just keeping up with my writing. You’re helping build something beautiful in a world where most Christian bookstores have quietly shut their doors. This space—this little corner of the internet—is how we share the Word now. So, thank you for making it possible. For opening your inbox, like others once opened a front door with a creaky bell. I’m honored to walk this journey with you.
What a bargain!!!! Your words only inspire and lead me in my journey to Holy Optimism! Thought provoking beyond words. Thx for this opportunity and never lose your zeal!!!!
Thank God you came back, Hayley! I read Devotions for the God Girl when I was starting to give my life to Christ some two-ish years ago. The book drastically changed me!
