God Girl

Hello everyone!

The other day I was listening to a song by John Waller called "As for Me and My House," and it really made me think about some stuff. I attached it to the bottom of this blog so people can listen to it, and I strongly encourage you to because it's a great song!

The main thing this song made me think about was my commitment to God and what it means. We all know that it's really super important to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37 NIV), because is that specific verse, Jesus even said that doing that is the most important thing ever! But the thing we don't always think about is that a lot of things can get in the way of that. There are a lot of things that, if we're not careful, can occupy too much of our time and even draw us away from God!

Here are some of the things I'm talking about:

  • Watching TV
  • Surfing the internet
  • Reading non-Christian books
  • Listening to non-Christian music
  • Fashion
  • Friends
  • Sports
  • Texting/talking on the phone
  • Any obsession or fixation that is not about God

Now don't take this the wrong way, I'm not saying that these things don't have their place. TV and the internet can be very educational and convenient, non-Christian books and music can be perfectly okay (as long as they don't have unsavory things in them!), sports are a great way to stay active, and fashion, friends, and phones are a great way to identify with other people. The thing that we, as people, tend to do is to overuse something or put too much into it so that it pulls us away from God and becomes kind of an idol. Whether it's something that we spend way too much time doing so we have not enough time to praise and worship the One who created us, or teaches us something that is not true and corrupts our thoughts, it can definitely pull us away from God!

There's a verse that talks about this, and it goes like this:

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15 NIV)

This means that we have to choose if we want to serve and worship God, or if we want to serve and worship other things such as our worldly possessions and desires. Jesus should be the #1 most important thing in our lives! I don't know about you, but I choose to serve Him!

That song is very moving and very relatable.  Lately, I have been trying to see if there are any worldly things getting in the way of my relationship with the Lord.  This post...haha it was perfect.  Thank you for posting :)
