Today as I sat in my apartment working on a large puzzel I had started a few days earlier, I noticed how quiet my small empty apartment had become. So, I walked over and turned on the stereo and left it on the station my friends were on the night before. The first song that came on was Whistle by Flo Rida. The whistling was catchy and I never really listened to the lyrics until this day. It had no meaning that really mattered. I think that it is referring to something sexual, but I am not sure. Other popular songs that I hear often are sexual rap songs, nasty I know everything songs, and songs that say it's okay to be sexually sinful. Why must the music industry be so ignorant? Nikki Minaj's lyrics are so innapropriate and sexual that I am embarresed just to listen to it. I know my friends don't like to listen to Christian music so when they ride in my car I will turn on a radio station that they may like. Even the radio, with it's cencorship, can put a test on any God Girl's morals. Now if you turn on some Toby Mac or Matt Redman then you will get lyrics that truly mean something special. Why waste your time listening to pointless, sinful, obnoxious music when you can dedicate more of your time to worshipping the Lord?

Comment by Cassidy on October 4, 2012 at 6:14pm Hey Amanda!
You're totally right. It can be really hard to decide what secular music is ok...My guideline for popular music is pluggedin.com. It breaks the song down and tells if what, if anything is wrong with the lyrics. It's a huge tool if you're trying to keep your music clean and God honoring. For example, Home by Phillip Phillips got a great review! And I was super happy, because I love that song. But a song that I originally heard the chorus to and was ok, California Girls by Katy Perry, got a really bad review. I was shocked by the content of the lyrics, and it was really nice to be told what was wrong with it before I bought it on iTunes. Good luck with keeping that music God honoring!
Comment by Amanda Green on September 29, 2012 at 5:08pm Oh no! I am not saying that Christian music is the only good music to listen to! Not at all. I don't listen to only Christian music. I apologize if I didn't say that in the blog, I wrote it very quickly.
