When God asks us to do something, how do we know? Of course, I know you check with the Bible, but what if it is the gray area? And when God asks us to do something, will everything sort of fall into place? Like, if He wants you to talk to someone, will that person be sitting next to you in class or sit next to you at lunch? Or will it be more like God tells you to do something and then you have to go and make things happen for you to be able to do it? I guess this is sort of for you to think about, but it is also questions I have, so if you can come up with an answer from Bible verses or past experiences that would be very helpful!

Comment by Michaela on September 10, 2012 at 5:00pm I, like Jordan, think a bit of both. But for me, God makes it happen more often than asking me too do things. In my life, I am very musical. I wanted to take choir in my first year of highschool. But I am trying for a scholarship on the oboe because it is rare. So I had to take band instead. I was really upset, but I really felt like God wanted me to go to a good college so that I can do more for Him with the skills I will learn there. In taking band, I realized, God really DOES have plans for us. In band I am learning how to control my breathing way better than I ever have before. And I realized, oh my goodness. God is doing this so that when I take choir next year, I will be even better! You just have to trust the Lord. And then everything will fall into place. Because if you trust in the Lord, you will want to do what He asks you to do and if He, well for lack of a better phrase, makes everything fall into place, then you will be grateful and full of praise for Him. :)
Comment by Jordan Carmichael on September 9, 2012 at 1:36pm I think God does both. I believe if he tells you to do something, in some cases he might just hand it over to you and put all the steps in place, but I think in other cases, if you know God is calling you to do something, it is your job to honor and obey him and go do it. We cannot disobey God. If you are asking God for someone to share the gospel with, I believe in that situation God would place that person right in front of you. We just have to keep our eyes opened to God's calling.
When I went on a missions trip this past summer, I had quite a few people afterward asking me how I knew God was calling me to go on a missions trip. All I could do was smile and say, "You just know. there isn't much to it." For me I got this incredible feeling. It was a God thing. It was a feeling you could only have from God. It couldn't come from anywhere else.
I will continue to look for a Bible verse for you, but right now the best I can find is
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
