I love to dress up in style, but I hear Christians are sopposed to dress modestly. I feel the way you wanna dress shouldn't effect the relationship you have with God or second guess people to make them think that because the way your dressed makes you not Christian. There is a verse in the Bible that says" your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit" .What do you think??how do you feel about dressing up ??

Comment by MacKenzie Whittington on August 11, 2012 at 6:53pm My Aunt had the same problem. She said to dress YOUR style 'cause that's how God made you. Show you love God by showing off his work!!!!
Comment by Haley G. Zachry on August 10, 2012 at 3:32pm I definitely think it's okay to dress up, but also make sure that you're not showing off your body. There's a difference between looking nice, and trying to get everyone to see how nice you can look. God made you, and you should try to honor him with the way you look and dress. This doesn't mean you have to wear a sack, but just because something is in style doesn't mean you have to wear it. Especially if it will draw negative attention!!
I LOVE to dress up to. But I NEVER dress to get attention from others, or to show off all the money I have. I deffinetley watch what I wear though. I never buy anything that gets the bad attention. Your body IS God's temple, so treat it right. If that makes since ? (:
Comment by Kara on August 9, 2012 at 11:46pm modest is the hottest! :) i think that dressing in revealing clothing is essentially dishonoring your body as a temple. Your body is holy, and should be treated as such. <3
Comment by Lisi on August 9, 2012 at 4:56pm Modest doesn't mean boring. You can still dress well and look cute without showing way too much of yourself. Don't be offensive to others by the way you dress. Especially not offensive to God. What Kathleen said is super right!
Comment by Kaylee Ann Smith on August 7, 2012 at 8:37pm 1Tim 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
Being modest in our dress means that we are modest in our heart! I want to please the Lord the way I dress and 1 Tim 2:9 tells us to dress modestly. If we sin against God in this matter by dressing immodestly, the affects of our sin can be very serious!
I looked up on the internet some issues concerning immodesty and the terrible sins it causes. There are 1.3 rapes every minute in the Untied States. THAT is terrible but if we are not willing to be obedient to the Word of God, there is a terrible price to pay!
Comment by Gracey helen dykstra on August 7, 2012 at 10:14am it makes more sense now, thanks to you both!:)
Comment by Kathleen Adams on August 7, 2012 at 7:29am Christianity does involve your body as well as your spirit and both can be affected by the way you dress. You have to keep both pure to truly please God but when it comes to how you dress there is a third aspect you need to keep in mind: how it effects others. Now you may be thinking 'how can my choice in clothing effect someone at all' but it is a serious matter. We are human, we can be easily tempted by our desires, especially if we are not yet strong in our faith and its even worse for those who haven't found God yet.
Ok, so there is a boy I know in my church who is my age. He has been known to innocently flirt with me (showing off, quietly saying sweet things to me ect.)and when he gets close my cheeks have been known to go a most delicate shade of pink and it is all fine because it is just a girl and a boy reacting to each other in a natural and good way. This is good and nice but it all changes when he catches me in tops that dip a little too far or cling to my womanly curves a little too much. It seems unbelievable that he could see me in a sexual way and I felt horrible that the choice I made that morning of what to wear has been the cause of him stumbling and saying things he wouldn't normally to me. Getting in these situations are never good and a fleeting moment of lust quickly develops into hatred for each other, breaking down whatever friendship we had. The more moments we get caught in like this the more stupid things he says which make me angry and bitter at him which make him angry and filled with hatred at me for making him stumble in his christian walk.
You see it starts with affecting the other person but then it starts to affect your spiritual purity and than, if it gets serious enough, it can effect your physical purity due to sexual sin.
You mentioned part from 1 Corinthians.
"What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye is bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your Spirit, which are God's. (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)
This is a fantastic passage and I have it up on my own wardrobe. <3
However here are some equally good passages I think you should read on the matter of dressing in a way that doesn't cause yourself or other people to sin:
Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. (1 Corinthians 8:9)
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in her heart. (Matthew 5:28)
Hope could help,
Your sister in Christ <3
